This year at Baselworld 2015, just like every other year, the brand wowed everyone with several watches featuring automatons. As you all know, Jaquet Droz's history was marked by his creation of automatons in the 18th century. In 1774, he successfully completed three humanoid automatons —The Writer, The Draughtsman and The Musician— that were presented in La Chaux-de-Fonds and a year later in France to Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette.
Here we present you another one of our favorite pieces this year at Baselworld 2015. We are talking about the impressive Blancpain L-Evolution Tourbillon Carrousel in platinum ref. 92322-34B39-55B. This new release from Baselworld 2015 with its distinctive bezel, the form of the applied numerals together with the asymmetric form of the bridges and base plate, give the timepiece a unique place in the within the Blancpain collection.
On the lower left of the dial, the Richard Mille RM19-02 Tourbillon 'Fleur' incorporates a magnolia wrapped around a flying tourbillon with its five delicate petals. Equipped with a true automaton, the magnolia opens its petals every five minutes —or on demand thanks to a pusher located at 9 o'clock— in a delicate kinetic ballet.
Enjoy the mesmerizing sound of perfection. Being in the presence of what we can now refer to as the "glassiest and louder minute repeater we've listened to" since pocket watches, was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Officially presented this week at the SIHH 2015, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Acoustic Research Episode 1 —Etude Acoustique No.1— is product of exceptional engineering but also years of research to create the most unique and superb minute repeater to date.
Fonderie 47 was founded in 2009 by Peter Thum with the goal of reducing the number of destabilizing assault weapons in Africa. Thum realized the enormous problem these weapons created, having met boys and young men armed with assault rifles, and the victims of these weapons, while developing clean water projects in east Africa. Thum decided to transform these implements of devastation into something as removed from them and as positive as possible, i.e. exclusive objects that would inspire change and fund the destruction of weapons.
It was in the 18th century that the first minute repeater watch was devised to provide an audible indication of the time in the dark, in an era before the advent of electric lighting. While this complication is no longer an imperious necessity, it continues to represent the pinnacle of the art of watchmaking.
