Already and only after our day one at Baselworld 2015, we can fairly say that so far, blue has been the color of choice for several of the novelties presented across different manufactures we've met with so far. Here, we present you one of our favorite watches from the fair as we type, we are talking about the impressive Hublot Big Bang Italia Independent Limited Edition ref. 411.YL.5190.NR.ITI15 which is the latest in a long line of innovative Hublot timepieces that combine inspirational design with state-of-the-art materials. The new Hublot Big Bang Unico Italia Independent Limited Edition of 500 pieces in either denim blue or denim gray, is fitted with a robust case measuring 45 mm in a brand new material that is exclusive to the brand and that is named Texalium. This new material highly resembling the typical pattern on carbon fiber comes with a slightly different sheen, product of the aluminum-coated carbon fiber used on its case. After doing this hands-on review, we can tell you that this new watch is worth the money.
This new watch is the result of a collaboration between the brand and Italia Independent, a fashion 'think tank' launched in 2007 for the Pitti Uomo in Florence. Founded by Giovanni Accongiagioco, Lapo Elkann and Andrea Tessitore, its mission and philosophy is to be a source of inspiration. Italia Independent seeks the use of new materials in the fashion industry including Kevlar, Cordura by DuPont, Gore-tex or even carbon in conjunction with noble materials as the cashmere of Loro Piana for the creation of new interpretations of classic products as symbols of innovation. Hublot signed a three-year agreement with Italia Independent last at the end of 2014. This new watch is fitted with a skeletonized dial that allows for full view of the Hublot calibre HUB 1242 UNICO with PVD treatment in black —gray— or anthracite gray —blue.
The new Hublot Big Bang Unico Italia Independent Limited Edition is fitted with the now standard interchangeable strap system that allows for an quick an easy strap change providing wearers the ability to change the look of their watch in a matter of seconds. As most of you probably already know, all it takes is a quick press on the push piece located at 6 or 12 o'clock on the case to then release the strap.
The strap made of blue or gray denim respectively is rubber lined and fitted with countersunk studs in titanium, gold colored for the blue model and black for the gray one. The look of the strap is very fashion forward and quite comfortable. The strap features a deployant clasp in carbon fiber.
This new watch is fitted with a display case back that allows for full view of the movement that provides a power reserve of 72 hours. The watch is water resistant to a depth of a 100 meters.
On the wrist, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Italia Independent Limited Edition wears just like any other Big Bang Unico in terms of size and comfort. While the grey version seems easier to wear with just any outfit, the hue of the blue version is just out of this world. We have included two wrist shots with different levels of lighting so you can see this true chameleon in action.
